C'est la mascotte de la légendaire université Horai, au Japon.
Mais bien avant que ses tours ne touchent les nuages, Horai n'était plus qu'un murmure noyé par la mer.
La légende raconte qu'avant de devenir le berceau de la science et du génie, la région où se trouve l'île a été frappée par une série de tsunamis dévastateurs.
Pendant des jours, la fureur de l'océan s'est intensifiée sans relâche, ravageant les côtes, anéantissant les villages et engloutissant les rêves.
Lorsque la dernière vague s’éleva, plus haute que toutes les autres avant elle, prête à effacer jusqu’au dernier écho d’espoir… le ciel rugit.
Et une créature ailée aux griffes cramoisies déchira les nuages noirs, traversant le firmament tel un jugement dernier. Sa silhouette atterrit sur le rivage, au sommet d'un rocher solitaire. Là , elle resta assise, observant, calme et tranquille, et la fureur de la mer s'apaisa en signe de respect.
On dit que la créature n'a ni rugi ni attaqué ; elle a simplement fixé l'horizon. Et l'océan, silencieusement, s'est retiré.
A tel point qu’une nouvelle terre a émergé de son centre : l’île d’Horai.
Une promesse d'avenir, une offrande faite en réponse à la catastrophe qu'elle a provoquée. Née de l'équilibre entre la fureur naturelle et la volonté de protéger.
